Caring for Patients Who Use CPAP/BiLevel (BiPAP) Therapy (Online)

This interactive online course focuses on how to care for patients who use CPAP or BiLevel (also called BiPAP) therapy. It consists of six videos followed by three case scenarios for an opportunity to apply what you've learned. Topics include:

  • Introduction to CPAP/BiLevel (BiPAP) therapy
  • System parts
  • Machine settings
  • Fitting and adjusting masks
  • Patient comfort and compliance
  • General machine cleaning and troubleshooting

0.75 contact hours will be awarded to online class participants.'

Criteria for successful completion to receive 0.75 contact hours

  • Completion of all course modules
  • Achieving a passing score of 85% on post-test  
  • Completion and submission of an evaluation form

Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to

  1. Explain the therapy provided by BiLevel and CPAP systems.
  2. Describe the main components of BiLevel and CPAP systems.
  3. Check and adjust the settings of a BiLevel and CPAP machine.
  4. Check and adjust the fit of the BiLevel or CPAP mask on a patient.
  5. Properly clean and troubleshoot common problems that occur with BiLevel and CPAP devices.
  6. Describe interventions used to improve patient tolerance and compliance with therapy.
